currentMood: How did you start working on this series?

Anasuya Sengupta: This series started quite by chance. I got interested in playing with text along with visuals, by creating tiny stories and  witty captions. After the initial few I realised that I had a lot to say! I named my character Bala, it’s partly based on myself (I had once acted in a vintage short film where I played a princess called Bala). I didn’t give much thought to it, to be honest, but it seemed like a playful thing to do, using Bala to dish out my two penny worth.

cM: Are you a self taught artists or did you go to art school?

AS: I had drawing lessons as a child, but most of what I do now is self taught and practised.

cM: How would you describe the style of your works on Instagram?

AS: Cartoons and caricatures, I suppose.

cM: Is IG a good way to be discovered for upcoming creatives/artists? How has the response been so far?

AS: I think it’s a fantastic platform. Art seems to have taken over Instagram in a big way and I couldn’t be happier! It creates a common platform for both newbies and experienced artists. There’s a lot of exchange of dialogue and inspiration thats rampant. The response has been amazing! I often have prolific artists whose work I admire write me telling me they enjoy my work. It really makes my day, to say the least!

cM: What’s next?

AS: I want to start working more on comics.
