Sabyasachi for Nilaya by Asian Paints at Belgadia Palace & Ahilya Fort

The Belgadia Palace in Odisha and Ahilya Fort in Maheshwar have been reimagined with the Sabyasachi for Nilaya by Asian Paints Paris-Calcutta Chapter IV collection.

The Belgadia Palace, a charming heritage gem from the 1940s, is run by sisters Mrinalika and Akshita Bhanj Deo, the 48th generation of the royal Bhanj Dynasty. With its newly reimagined State and Dining Rooms, draped in Sabyasachi for Nilaya by Asian Paints Paris-Calcutta Chapter IV’s wallpapers and fabrics. “This collection blends Mayurbhanj’s rich history with global influences, creating an environment that is both rooted in tradition and attuned to modern aesthetics,” says Mrinalika. The intricate detailing of the Victorian-style architecture is softened by lush patterns and textures, making each room feel like a delicate balance of the old and the new. “The wallpapers tell a story—one that respects the past while embracing contemporary luxury,” she adds.

Meanwhile, The Ahilya Fort Hotel, originally built in the 18th century and perched above the Narmada River, has been transformed with textiles from the same collection. Prince Richard Holkar, who oversees the heritage hotel, was particularly keen to create a harmonious space within the Narmada Suite that echoed both the fort’s regal history and its breathtaking natural surroundings. “The fabrics blend effortlessly with Maheshwar’s handwoven textiles, maintaining the delicate balance between heritage and contemporary design,” Richard shares. Shades inspired by the river’s tranquil hues and local craftsmanship infuse the room with a serene and understated luxury. “Each textile brings the spirit of the place into the room. It’s not just about décor; it’s about capturing the soul of Maheshwar,” he says.

But this collaboration is much more than a simple facelift—it’s a celebration of India’s rich artistic legacy. Every wallpaper and textile choice honors traditional artisans, elevating their work to a global audience. “We’re not just updating spaces; we’re also giving a platform to the artisans of these regions, whose craftsmanship is a treasure in itself,” Mrinalika explains. “This collection isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about deepening the connection to India’s history and culture.”

The transformation of these spaces has been met with glowing praise, with guests describing the interiors as both evocative and immersive. “The Belgadia Palace now feels like a living museum—each room tells a story of its own,” Mrinalika notes. At Ahilya Fort, Richard hopes that visitors will find the Narmada Suite to be a sanctuary of peace and refinement, where every detail encourages reflection and restfulness. “This is the magic of thoughtful design—it doesn’t just transform a space; it keeps its story alive.”
