All Aboard Belmond’s Britannic Explorer

This July, Belmond (the same LVMH-backed name behind the Royal Scotsman and the Andean Explorer) is launching its newest high-design adventure: the Britannic Explorer. It’s the first-ever luxury sleeper train in England and Wales. Part slow travel fantasy, part rolling design capsule, it’s the kind of escape that reimagines Britishness without romanticising it.

Where It Goes

Departing from London’s Victoria Station, the three-night journey winds through Cornwall, Cumbria, the Lake District, and deep into Wales before circling back to the capital. Along the way: sailing on the Cornish coast, wood-fired saunas in the wilds of Wales, and a dining car that might just outdo half of Mayfair.

Inside: Bold, Earthy

There are 18 cabins onboard, 15 Suites and 3 Grand Suites, and nothing about them is shy. Belmond tapped London design studio Albion Nord to build something new: a layered, lived-in look that trades cliché for character.

So, yes, there’s wood, stone, wool, and all the countryside textures you’d expect. But they’re paired with custom wallpaper by Luke Edward Hall, graphic wood panels by Olly Fathers, mirrors by Mel Campion, and landscape paintings by Sarah Woods in the spa suite. Even the dining cars double as a gallery: kinetic paintings by Ed Burkes and hand-dyed lichen-inspired panels by Adam Halls. It’s giving: rolling boutique hotel.

Food, Obviously

Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan is handling the menus, which rotate seasonally and lean hard into farm-to-forkproduce. The vibe is elevated, elegant, and refreshingly unfussy. Need to recharge between courses (or coastlines)? Head to the Wildsmith-designed spa car for a facial, massage, or the quietest hour of your month.

Belmond train

A Little Extra? Definitely.

The Britannic Explorer isn’t about throwbacks or theatrics. It’s about slowing down, stretching out, and seeing Britain through a different lens; one layered in texture, art, and really good lighting.

It’s the kind of trip where you sip a Negroni somewhere above the Welsh valleys, wrapped in wool, surrounded by sculptural wood and quiet luxury. Yes, it starts at £11,000 for three nights. But you’re not just paying for a train ride. You’re booking mood, movement, and one very chic reset.
