cM Review: The Oberoi, Mumbai

We caught the early morning flight from Kolkata and landed in Mumbai dreaming of room service by the sea. At arrivals, an Oberoi chauffeur was waiting—placard in hand, bags whisked away, a Mercedes E-Class at the ready. Fifty minutes later, we pulled up at The Oberoi, Mumbai.

Check in: 10/10

The lobby is flooded with light, airy and welcoming in a way that makes you slow down as soon as you walk in. Check-in took all of a minute. Bags already on their way up before we’d even noticed.

Rooms: 10/10

We stayed in the Ocean Suite, and the view alone could be the whole review. From floor-to-ceiling windows, the Arabian Sea and the Queen’s Necklace feel so close, it’s like you’re on a cruise ship. But it’s the details that set the room apart: our names embroidered on napkins and pillowcases, airline tags discreetly taken off our luggage, a plate of desserts waiting by the window.

And then there’s turndown. Every night we returned to thoughtful little treats that can come handy in daily life: charger covers, shoe fresheners, more desserts (yes, more), and those small gestures that make you feel like the hotel has thought of things you didn’t know you needed. A butler on call for coffee, laundry, or unpacking is just the cherry on top. Even the fruit in the room changes daily, so nothing ever feels repetitive.

Dining: 10/10

Dining here is a mood. Cocktails (try the picante) and warm olives at Eau Bar feel like the perfect prelude to a late night. Dinner at Vetro delivers Italian/European indulgence, while the Chilean sea bass at Fenix makes you forget you’re in the middle of the city. Even in-room dining feels special when the table is set right by your window, the sea stretching out in front of you. Breakfast at Fenix is generous yet personal. The staff remembers what you like, and you’re never waiting too long for a refill of coffee.

Experiences: 9/10

The pool is perfect; temperature-controlled, shallow enough for lazy floats, with fresh watermelon juice waiting when you arrive. Sunrise yoga at 7 a.m. by the pool is a gift for early risers. The spa is tough to book, so definitely plan ahead. Retail therapy is just downstairs at Tijori, with Gem Palace jewelry, Injiri clothing, and souvenirs curated from across India. And if you want more, The Oberoi connects directly to its sister property, The Trident Nariman Point.

Check out: 10/10

Quick, easy, seamless. Exactly how you want to leave a place like this.

Takeaway

Whether it’s a city break with a sea view or your first taste of Mumbai, The Oberoi nails the balance between polished and personal. It’s in the little things: your name embroidered on a pillowcase, fresh fruit every day, surprise treats after turndown—that you realise how rare this kind of hospitality is. The view is unforgettable, yes. But it’s the warmth that lingers.
