St+art India Foundation partnered up with Adidas and Asian Paints to promote gender inclusivity in sports. They teamed up with New Delhi based artist, Khatra who created a typographic mural at St.Andrews High School, Mumbai’s basketball court. Khatra uses bold colours to depict the message of equality ‘GIRLS = BOYS’. The revamped basketball court was unveiled on the 8th of March (International Women’s Day).
Fusing the world of art and sports is powerful medium to start a conversation and raise awareness about gender equality. Their message is simple: sports shouldn’t be gender specific. According to their press release, “It represents the importance of changing mindsets when it comes to sport, street and urban culture. By bringing together different mediums, this base sits as an edifice of ‘change’ in the community as well as stands as a symbol of equality and exclusivity.”
Since its inception in 2014, St+art India Foundation strives to make art democratic and accessible to anyone and everyone. ‘St+art Courts’ aims to liven up playgrounds across India by collaborating with artists to create artwork that builds on the spirit of sportsmanship and brings about a positive change in communities.
