On a Sunday evening, the drive from Churchgate to Lower Parel took just about 20 minutes — rare, and reason enough to book the early sitting at Fireback. Peninsula Corporate Park feels unexpectedly calm for Mumbai: wide, open, almost serene. One floor above Comorin, Fireback slips right in, like it was always meant to be there.
If the name rings a bell, that’s because Fireback first opened in Goa last year. It’s the latest from EHV International(the people behind Indian Accent, Comorin, HOSA and Chor Bizarre). The name comes from Thailand’s national bird, but really it’s a nod to the fire, theatrics, and boldness of Thai kitchens.

At the helm is Chef David Thompson. He’s often called the world’s authority on Thai cuisine, with Brand Chef Kaustubh Haldipur leading the Mumbai team after training in Bangkok. The result? A menu that feels alive: sharp herbs, unapologetic spice, bold ferments, smoky grill, and curries that hit warm and deep.
What we loved most:
– Prawns nahmjim with a pounded chilli dip.
– Pineapple som tam: sweet-sour with tamarind and palm sugar (a table favourite).
– Thai hot & sour chicken soup.
– The green curry: comforting, aromatic.
– For dessert: grilled banana with crispy roti and condensed milk ice cream.

The curries deserve their own shout-out. The Jungle curry with grilled pork is as fiery as it sounds, while the Red curry with soft-shell crab leans rich and fragrant. Even the Thai omelette and crab fried rice land with finesse.
Cocktails are equally fun. Varun Sharma, EHV’s Head of Bars, has built a list that plays with Thai ingredients without being gimmicky. The Tom Yum Highball (gin, guava, lemongrass cordial, kaffir lime) is sharp and refreshing, while the Mango Rice cocktail riffs playfully on the dessert. If you’re into smoky: try the Lapsang Old Fashioned.
The space itself, designed by Russell Sage Studio with Rashmi Khattar, is sleek but warm. Curved lights ripple across the ceiling, throwing a soft glow, while the palette stays grounded and unfussy. Chic without trying too hard.
The takeaway? Fireback makes Thai food feel cinematic in Mumbai. It’s smoky, spiced, and unexpectedly chic. Bookmark it for your next dinner date.
