A fashion film on depression that showcases the painful reality of the mental illness, by photographer Uma Damle.
London College of Fashion grad student and photographer Uma Damle’s fashion film, Illustrations in Melancholy hits close to home for many of us. She turns her personal struggles into art, giving depression a visual and creative voice.
“This film is an effort to capture my experience of urban loneliness and melancholia, through surreal visualisation. Gloom that follows one around like a cloud, the polished shiny veneer one puts up to hide the sadness that lies underneath, the feeling of isolation in public spaces, simple day to day tasks seeming like a huge burdens and the inability to do things and go places are all the feelings and emotions associated with depression that have no physical reality but are acutely real for people suffering from depression.” – Uma Damle
