Priyanka Thaker: Infusing Art into Everyday Living

What if your home could tell your story? In our latest feature, Priyanka Thaker discusses her unique approach to transforming everyday living spaces into evolving works of art through House of Berserk. With an architectural background and a passion for narrative design, Thaker pushes the boundaries of interiors, crafting spaces that not only reflect her clients’ journeys but also inspire and provoke thought. From bold, eclectic pieces to her fearless embrace of maximalism, she’s redefining the way we think about home.

currentMood Mag: Tell us about your early days—how did your education shape your creative journey?

Priyanka Thaker: I’m an architect by training, and that foundation gave me a deep understanding of scale, space, and volumes. Architecture exposes you to everything—lighting, furniture, visual arts, even music and film. It’s all interconnected. Over the years, I’ve evolved through conscious choices and quirky exploration.

currentMood Mag: House of Berserk transforms spaces into living art. What inspired you to blur the line between art and home decor?

Priyanka Thaker: We don’t play by the rules. Art can be design, design can be decor—or neither. Our work flows seamlessly from public spaces to private homes. As for a defining moment? There wasn’t one. It’s been years of evolving that led to House of Berserk.

currentMood Mag: Your pieces evoke emotion—what do you want people to feel when they experience House of Berserk in their everyday lives?

Priyanka Thaker: The true purpose of art is to first nurture the artist’s own spiritual growth, and then to shape the experience it creates for others. At House of Berserk, we aim to do just that—create pieces that provoke, liberate, and inspire people to go beyond their limits.

currentMood Mag: You embrace bold, maximalist aesthetics. How do you see maximalism playing out in today’s design world?

Priyanka Thaker: It’s the endless debate: loud vs. muted, colorful vs. monochrome, more vs. less. We’re just here to create what feels authentic.

currentMood Mag: Living artfully means spaces are always evolving. Do your pieces adapt with time, or are they meant to stand alone?

Priyanka Thaker: I don’t believe in living a linear life. Our experiences shape us, and in turn, they shape the work we create—the stories we tell and the boundaries we push. Our work needs to remain timeless and relevant for our clients. When we design, we consider their journey—where they’ve been, where they are, and where they’re headed, both practically and aspirationally.

currentMood Mag: Your designs are full of eclectic motifs that feel deeply personal. How do you decide which stories to tell in your work?

Priyanka Thaker: House of Berserk is a storyteller’s paradise—a studio driven by narrative. Whether it’s fiction, futurism, mythology, or tradition, we thrive on tales. Personally, I aim to embody the heroine of myths—one of vehemence, fearlessness, and power.

When it comes to personal stories, I skillfully use mindfulness to craft designs that reflect the essence of who you are. Our history is rich with motifs and symbolism, and once you start digging, it’s like opening Pandora’s box. I love weaving these familiar symbols into my designs in surreal ways, adding layers and depth to every piece.

currentMood Mag: How do you see the concept of ‘living artfully’ evolving? What can we expect next from House of Berserk?

Priyanka Thaker: Living itself is an art form, and what better canvas than your home to reflect that? Design is moving toward collectibles, even in decor, and we’re also seeing a shift towards modernizing and reviving traditional crafts—a direction that’s both exciting and full of promise.

As for House of Berserk, you can expect us to keep writing, building, drawing, playing, and creating—making the world around us a more vibrant and expressive space.

currentMood Mag: Every creative journey has its challenges—what’s been your biggest one, and how did you overcome it?

Priyanka Thaker: I’ve had a ligament tear since I was 18, and in March 2023, I tore my meniscus as well. I had ACL and meniscus repair surgery and was bedridden for six weeks. It felt like learning to walk all over again. The rehab was a life-altering experience, and with the physical demands of my work, getting back on my feet with ongoing site commitments was nearly crushing.

But what did I do? I showed up. Every single day—for myself and for House of Berserk. That’s what you do: you keep showing up until the breakthrough comes. A year later, I’m traveling even more, both across the country and internationally, pushing forward stronger than ever.

currentMood Mag: What advice would you give aspiring designers who want to follow in your footsteps?

Priyanka Thaker: There’s no rush in life—no need to be in a hurry to reach a destination. You don’t have to have it all figured out or be a master of just one thing. Instead, immerse yourself in the journey, and your true calling will reveal itself. Explore, learn, and experiment; safety is a thing of the past. Take risks—giving up is for rookies. I live by this mantra: ever tried, ever failed—no matter. Just try again and fail better.
