What to Know About the Saffronart 25th Anniversary Auction 2025

Twenty-five years in the game, and Saffronart is still setting the pace. On September 27, 2025, the auction house is celebrating its milestone with the Saffronart 25th Anniversary Auction 2025 at The Oberoi in New Delhi. And the line-up is basically a who’s who of Indian modernism.

We’re talking Gaitonde’s moody abstractions, Husain’s Floating Figure, Souza’s biting Six Gentlemen of Our Times, Sabavala’s solitary Anchorite, and Raza’s Rajasthan burning in reds and ochres. Add to that five rare works from the legendary Krishna and Jean Riboud collection. Their names echoed across Paris, London, and New York salons for decades, and you’ve got a catalogue that doubles as modern Indian art history.

Saffronart has always been a bit of a disruptor. It was the first Indian house to run online auctions back in 2000, long before bidding from your laptop became normal. This 25th anniversary evening sale isn’t just about rare canvases changing hands; it’s a reminder of how Indian art has built its global moment, and how collectors here shaped the story.
