Gucci’s Play Watch Is Having Its Comeback Moment

Gucci’s Play Watch Is Having Its Comeback Moment

Back in the mid-’80s, Gucci’s Play Watch that told a story. The watch was bright, bold, and completely unapologetic about it. It had colourful bezels you could swap out depending on your outfit, your mood, or your entire personality that day. It was the kind of fashion move that felt radical before “self-expression” became a thing.

Now, decades later, Gucci’s bringing it back. The new Gucci Play still believes in the power of reinvention, but now it does it in ceramic. The bezels click in and out with a satisfying snap, coming in six shades: red, green, pink, black, white, and navy. Plus the house’s signature green-and-red combo, obviously.

The case is a little bigger (28 mm), the feel a little more polished, with yellow-gold plating and a matte white dial that keeps things quietly luxe. It’s archival, yes, but not nostalgic. It’s more like Gucci taking one of its quirkiest ideas and giving it grown-up confidence.
