JJ Valaya Is Doing Handbags Now

JJ Valaya is stepping into handbags, and the first drop is personal. The debut line opens with the Raj and Jagjit bags, named after his parents, built around the idea of closeness, protection, and everything that comes with it.

The larger Jagjit bag holds the smaller Raj bag inside it. Carried together or on their own, the pairing stays connected to the same idea. It’s intimate, and very in line with how Valaya approaches design.

From there, the collection opens out into a full range of silhouettes that move easily between occasion and everyday. A mini flap with a chain strap and clean structure, a batua belt bag that shifts between waist and crossbody, and an oversized clutch that brings in texture and detail through velvet, embroidery, and beadwork.

The materials do the heavy lifting. Embroidered velvet, quilted nappa leather, soft suede interiors, and custom brass hardware run through the collection. There are references to Byzantine and Mughal influences, but they sit quietly within the design rather than taking over.

What stands out is how the bags fit into a wardrobe. They hold their own, but don’t demand a full look built around them. You can carry them into a wedding, or work them into something more everyday without it feeling out of place.

Starting at ₹39,000, JJ Valaya handbags are available online and at The World of Valaya at JW Marriott Aerocity in New Delhi, Jio World Plaza in Mumbai, and Qutub Garden in Mehrauli, Delhi.
