Vaishali S, known for her sublime creations with handloom textiles and an indisputable global repute after 5 seasons at New York Fashion Week, has captured our hearts yet again with her new bridal couture collection, ‘Madanottsava’, dedicated to support artisans and weavers during the pandemic.
As consumer tendencies are changing in the wake of COVID-19, Vaishali S appeals to the mindful customer, with this versatile and functional collection, that underlines an eco-conscious bridal statement. The collection incorporates a variety of indigenous handloom from Chanderi to Assam, encompassing 5 ancient weaves of India. A fine blend of Murshidabad silk and Khunn creates an array of individual and ageless pieces.
In this unique capsule of textured separates, each piece adds a modern perspective to the traditional heritage of bridal clothing. It aims at creating a responsible mindset, focused on long-lasting cherished heirlooms and simplistic architectural silhouettes while generating substantial income for marginalised weavers, artisans and craftsmen.
This collection comes full circle; by dedicating a percentage of the proceeds to the weavers working from home during quarantine, this provides the artisans an opportunity to earn financial support with dignity, as they deserve. With more than 900 weavers working with Vaishali S, the label is protecting this family, ensuring their security over the coming days. She is also auctioning garments and paying the weavers directly, twice as much, in advance.
With the socio-economic conditions only getting worse and with a longer lockdown period than expected, not only are weavers losing work, but are also challenged by the scarcity of raw materials and the inflated prices at which they are being sold at this time. In this situation, she is committed to adopting these families of weavers by supplying raw materials to them across four states and is providing them full-time work for the next three months, paid in advance.
